ARRIVAL OF THE FAMENOTH.

The ship Famenoth, from London, was towed into harbour this morning by the Glenelg and dropped anchor off the Queen-street Wharf at eight o'clock. She has made a fair passage of 102 days, but this is not equal to the previous performances of the vessel. The Famenoth is now well known here, and Captain Auld, the worthy skipper, is quite popular in Auckland. On the present occasion, the Famenoth comes out with 200 immigrants, in addition to several saloon passengers. The voyage, although protracted, has been a very pleasant one, fine weather having been experienced during most of the run. Fortunately there has been no sickness and no deaths. An accident occurred to an immigrant named Michael Creen, who dislocated his shoulder by a fall. There was a birth on May 29, when Mrs Sedgman was confined of a son. The immigrants all speak in high terms of the treatment they received from the captain and his officers, and indeed from all those in authority on the vessel, including the surgeon-superintendent, Mr E. Charlton Fox, who came out here in the Maraval last January. The Health Officer (Dr Philson) and Immigration Officer (Mr Brophy) did not board the vessel until noon, and communication with the shore was therefore prevented until the vessel passed the usual inspection. The immigrants appeared to be about the average class, but there was a very large proportion of females compared to the number of males. We are indebted to Captain Auld for the following report of the passage:—

"The ship Famenoth left London for Auckland, via Plymouth, on 22nd May at 2 a.m. Embarked emigrants and complement of passengers at Plymouth on the 28th, and sailed thence on the 29th at 6 p.m., with a light southwest wind, which continued until 2nd June, when a strong gale, with a high westerly sea, was encountered, during which the ship rolled and strained heavily. The gale continued for two days, after which light winds were met with until 11th June. The north-east trades were moderate, but light and variable winds were soon, fallen in with. The Equator was crossed on Saturday, 28th June, in long. 28°30 W. Light S.E. to S.S.E. winds were then encountered, which, necessitated several tackings along the South American coast, in the lower latitudes of which a high southerly sea was encountered. After this light northerly and north-easterly winds prevailed until the 27th July, when the meridian of Greenwich was crossed. From thence moderate breezes, with fine weather continued, the Cape of Good Hope being rounded on 27th July, and Tasmania on 25th August. The average for 29 days being 212 miles per day, the greatest run being 330 lines. After this calms and light winds were met with, the ship only gaining in two days 33 miles, dense fogs prevailed, after rounding Tasmania, almost uninterruptedly for six days. After this light winds with high N.E. sea up to Cape Maria Van Deimen which was made on the morning of the 7th September.

North Cape was passed at 7 p.m. same day (wind W.N.W. bright), 101 days from Plymouth; and Poor Knights at 10 a.m. on the morning of the 8th, with wind west. Tiritiri was passed at 11pm. Pilot came on board at ?.45 am. and dropped anchor in harbour at 8a.m. The weather during the passage has been unusually fine and the health of all on board has been remarkably good. The following ships - were spoken during the voyage:— Irvine of Ayr, in 30°51 N 19°42 W.; Sarah Grice, of London, Melbourne to London, in 9°14 N. 28°19 W,; Kapunda, of London. London to Adelaide, in 6°44 S. 33°20 W.; Pacific mail-steamer Brittania, Callao, for Liverpool, in 14°17 S. 37° W.; Pleonic, of Southampton, 2nd September, 38° 37 S. 159°29 E.: steering south-east".
