COPTIC

The COPTIC departed London on 21 December, 1892 and arrived in Wellington, via Capetown and Hobart, on 10 February, 1893. Captain C H Kempson was in command.

ARRIVAL OF S.S. COPTIC. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's ss Coptic, from London via Capetown and Hobart, arrived in harbour at 7.10 last evening, and was berthed at the Queen's Wharf shortly after 8 this morning. She left Plymouth at 2.35 pm on 25th Dec, reached Teneriffe at 6.45 pm on the 30th, and after landing passengers and taking in a quantity of coal proceeded on her way to Capetown at 5.30 am on 31st, and arrived there at 6 am on the 17th January. After being docked for coaling purposes and taking in passengers left at 6.25 pm for Hobart, which port was reached at 3.50 pm on the 31st February. Having embarked passengers and coal left for Wellington at 11.36 am on the 6th, and arrived as above. The weather was generally moderate throughout. During the trip the usual games, concerts, &c, were indulged in. Her cargo for this port consists of 1700 tons. She remains here until about Saturday or Sunday next, taking in about 10,000 carcasses of meat and a quantity of wool, &c, and then proceeds to Lyttelton, from which port, as at present decided, she takes her final departure for Home. Messrs W. & G. Turnbull & Co. are the local agents.
