The S.S. & A. Co.’s ss
Arawa, from London via Capetown and Hobart, was signalled shortly after
8 this morning, and arrived in harbour at 9.15 am. After having been
inspected by the Health Officer she was berthed at the Queen's Wharf.
She left Plymouth at 5 pm on 19th April, arrived at Teneriffe at 1 pm
on the 24th; left again at 9 pm same day, and arrived at Capetown at 9
pm on 9th May; landed 29 passengers and embarked 12, and sailed for
Hobart, which was reached at noon on 28th; landed 29 passengers and
discharged 30 tons cargo, and sailed for Wellington at 2 pm on the 29th,
arriving as above. She made the Heads at 6 last evening, but owing to
thick weather stood off until this morning. The voyage throughout was
very fine, with the exception of the run from Hobart to Wellington,
when strong northerly winds, with heavy seas and thick weather, were
encountered. The usual amusements were held during the voyage. Her
officers’ staff is unaltered since last trip. She brings 1600 tons
cargo for New Zealand, 750 tons of which are for Wellington, and 103
passengers. The Arawa remains here until Wednesday next, when she
